Art Hisory Lecture - Dennis Maher - Assembled City FragmentsContributed by David Salomon on 12/02/13 The Art History Department is hosting a lecture by artist and architect Dennis Maher, entitled "Assembled City Fragments," at 6pm on Tuesday, December 3rd in the Handwerker Gallery. Maher's visually striking and conceptually intriguing work engages the processes of disassembly and reconstitution through drawing, photography collages and constructions. Think Joseph Cornell at the scale of a building! Maher's work, which can be previewed at assembledcityfragments.com,explores relationships between HOUSE and CITY. In his ongoing Undone-Redone City project, Maher has continually reformulated the remains of houses, conjuring a new urban core from assembled city fragments. His work has been featured in the The New York Times, Architectural Review, ARCHDaily, Architect Magazine and on the national radio program Smart City Radio. Maher is currently a Clinical Assistant Professor in the Department of Architecture at SUNY, University at Buffalo.
