Winter Session Online Course explores Millennials' Attitudes about Race and RacismContributed by Laurie Arliss on 12/10/13 Dr. Christopher House, assistant professor of Communication Studies, will teach "Introduction to Culture and Communication" online during Winter Session 2014 (January 6-17). To enroll, simply log onto homerconnect and search the winter session offerings. The course explores the ways that communication establishes and enacts identity and power dynamics. Students critically analyze social identities as they are communicated, shaped, and reshaped. The main goal of the course is to make students aware of the various communicative processes (e.g.,language, media, discourse) used to construct dominant and non-dominant social identities (e.g., race, class, gender, sexuality). This is a 3-credit liberal arts course and all are welcome. For more information, contact chouse@ithaca.edu. |
