State Minimum Wage Increase

Contributed by Tanisha Malone on 12/16/13

As of Dec. 31, the New York State Department of Labor will apply an incremental increase to the current minimum wage of $7.25 per hour, raising it to $8.00 per hour, effective December 31, 2013.  The minimum wage will continue to increase to $8.75 in 2014 and to $9.00 in 2015.

This year, the change in the state minimum wage, will impact only those employees earning less than $8.00 per hour, and will result in a change in the rate paid for many of our student employees.

The Office of Human Resources will systematically adjust the rates for those students earning below $8.00 per hour.   There will be no adjustment for any employee (student or staff) paid $8.00 per hour and above.  The College will cover the cost of the adjustments for students earning less than $8.00 per hour. This same process will be followed in December 2014 and December 2015.

Please contact the Office of Human Resources at 607-274-8000 with any questions or concerns.

Thank you.
