Paula Twomey, Spanish instructor in the DMLL, has published Ten Fairy Tales in Latin with Bolchazy-Carducci Publishers, in collaboration with Suzanne Nussbaum. The ten tales include Goldilocks and the Three Bears, Little Red Riding Hood, Cinderella, The Little Red Hen, The Gingerbread Man, The Three Billy Goats Gruff, The Three Little Pigs, Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, The Pied Piper, and Sleeping Beauty. These popular fairy tales are presented as a script designed to be read aloud as reader’s theater or performed for a larger audience as a mini-drama. Each tale concludes with both a traditional ending and a “twisted ending” – an unexpected alternative conclusion to the story. A puzzle or activity accompanies each tale. The original text, Un-Classic Fairy Tales in Spanish, was translated by Suzanne Nussbaum into Latin, and the grammar notes and grammar exercises, authored by Suzanne, offer optional review of grammatical concepts for each tale. This is Twomey’s fifth different version of Un-Classic Fairy Tales, which also appears in French and German, with Teacher’s Discovery, and in Italian, with Applause Learning. Twomey is a graduate of SUNY Albany (BA) and Middlebury College (MA). She is a Rockefeller Fellow and the recipient of an NEH study grant to research Federico García Lorca. Twomey has been an instructor in the DMLL since 2009.
