Public Safety Receives Sign of Sustainability 2013 Award for Annual Law Enforcement Bike SchoolContributed by Susan Testa on 02/20/14 Submitted on behalf of Terri Stewart, Director for Public Safety and Emergency Management Sustainable Tompkins awarded Ithaca College Public Safety and Emergency Management the Sign of Sustainability 2013 Award for our 20th Annual Law Enforcement Bike School. Sustainable Tompkins is a citizen-based organization working towards the long-term well-being of our communities by integrating social equity, economic vitality, ecological stewardship, and shared responsibility. The Annual Law Enforcement Bike School is a five day course that combines classroom training with practical application exercises; it is designed as entry level training for law enforcement, utilizing specialized mountain bikes for patrol activities. This course is a longstanding community collaboration with course instructors representing IC Public Safety, Cornell University Police, SUNY Cortland Police, Cortland PD, Ithaca PD, and others. Course instructors hold various and specialized training certifications, including police instructor requirements (in accordance with NYS Department of Criminal Justice Services), International Police Mountain Bike Association (IPMBA), and Law Enforcement Bicycle Association (LEBA). |
