Reminder: Continuity & Disruption - 'artist talk' with Katie Waugh this ThursdayContributed by Jenny Stockdale on 02/25/14 Handwerker Gallery’s 'artist talk' this Thursday, Feb. 27, will feature local artist Katie Waugh, whose media piece Build Up is being projected in the Gannett Center stairwell rotunda (outside of the Ithaca College library) in a continuous loop from January 22 to March 7, 2014. Beginning at 6 p.m. in the main lobby, Waugh will introduce her practice and present completed works and projects in progress. IMAGE: Katie Waugh, There & Back, and There Again (2013) ARTIST BIO: ARTIST STATEMENT: Through research and observation, I pry open microscopic fissures in social systems, presenting what lays inside in an effort to uncover the values, ideologies, and cultural forces that brought them about. By employing a practice akin to collage, I uncover, repeat, reassemble, and re-contextualize pivotal details of structural patterns. I find particular interest in those things that appear to exemplify the strength of their respective structures, while simultaneously indicating some level of failure or discomfort. In this failure I find release, empowerment, and sublimity. *** All Handwerker Gallery events are free and open to the public. Gallery hours are Monday, Wednesday, and Friday, 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.; Thursday, 10:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m.; and weekends, noon to 5:00 p.m. The gallery is closed to the public on Tuesdays unless otherwise specified for an event but can accommodate group or class visits by appointment.
