Physics & Astronomy student, Katherine Kennovin, studies star formation from NASA’s airborne observatory

Katherine Kennovin (Physics ’14) will fly on NASA’s Stratospheric Observatory for Infrared Astronomy (SOFIA) to gather spectral data from star forming clouds in Orion. Her senior thesis research, with associate professor Luke Keller, is part of an international collaboration of scientists studying the effects of newly formed stars on their local environments.   Katherine will be present on SOFIA during the flight in March to help analyze the data as they are recorded from an altitude of 43,000 feet.
