School of Business Assistant Dean to Present at Regional ConferenceContributed by Paul Deamer on 03/13/14 School of Business Assistant Dean Dawn Kline, will be presenting at the National Academic Advising Association (NACADA) Region 1 Conference in Newport, RI, March 19-21. Dean Kline’s presentation, “Beyond the Greatest Hits: Articulating Student Achievement through Storytelling,” details that even the strongest students often struggle to speak meaningfully about their achievements and experiences. The focus on transcript and resume building can reduce a student's college career to a disjointed, bulleted list. And that the advising relationship is the perfect forum for encouraging students to think about their experiences, both inside and outside of the classroom, in a more holistic manner. “This presentation will explore ways in which advisors can help students develop their ‘story.’ It will include methods to facilitate brainstorming and the use of a matrix to connect student experiences to the qualifications required for internships, jobs, leadership positions, graduate school, and more. Participants will have the opportunity to complete a role playing exercise.” said Dean Kline. NACADA is an association of professional advisors, counselors, faculty, administrators, and students working to enhance the educational development of students. This is the 24th Annual NACADA Regional 1 Conference. Dean Kline joined the School of Business on April 29, 2013, as Assistant Dean for Student Services. Previously, Dawn was with the Whitman School of Management at Syracuse University, where she held the title of Director of Undergraduate Academic Advising and Counseling, since 2005. Dawn directs student academic services for the school which include admission events, orientation, registration, advising and academic evaluations. She also oversees the professional development and experiential education programs, as well as monitor and approve student academic actions, among a myriad of other duties. |
