Sustainability Speaker Series on March 26 to look at eliminating structural povertyContributed by Marian Brown on 03/26/14 The Sustainability Speaker Series will present Kirby Edmonds to address the question of "How Can We Eliminate Structural Poverty?" This learning event will take place on Wednesday, March 26th at 7:00pm in the Clark Lounge in the Campus Center. Kirby Edmonds, senior fellow with the Dorothy Cotton Institute, has been a leader in the "Building Bridges" program that has brought local community social justice and sustainability organizations together to collaborate on creating a just and sustainable local economy. In his work, Edmonds unpacks the root causes of poverty within our community, identifying the structures that perpetuate cycles of poverty and hinders those seeking to rise above. He will offer a new vision for how we can eliminate those barriers and help everyone become part of a thriving, local, sustainable economy. This event is accepted for Student Leadership Institute (SLI) credit. This event is free and open to the public. Individuals with disabilities requiring accommodations should contact Marian Brown at mbrown@ithaca.edu or (607) 274-3787. We ask that requests for accommodations be made as soon as possible.
