Upcoming Handwerker events for Strange Bedfellows, a nationally traveling exhibition exploring the collaborative practice in queer artContributed by Jenny Stockdale on 03/18/14 Handwerker Gallery’s latest exhibition—Strange Bedfellows—will feature a series of events across the next four weeks, including an opening reception this Thursday, March 20, from 4:30-6:30 p.m. in the gallery’s main lobby. On display at the Handwerker from March 17—April 11, Strange Bedfellows is a nationally traveling exhibition and catalogue exploring collaborative practice in queer art making. The exhibition is curated by San Francisco art historian Amy Cancelmo and is fiscally sponsored by the Queer Cultural Center (San Francisco). This exhibition offers a multiplicity of perspective on the queer experience and a variety of strategies for collaboration including political organizing, empathy, intersubjective identity, appropriation, familial relations, and romantic partnership. Following the curatorial talk Tuesday evening, and the opening reception this Thursday, Strange Bedfellows events will also feature artist talks with five of the exhibition artists, including Amos Mac, Chris Vargas, Greg Youmans, Sean Fader, and Tara Mateik.
