The Out of the Closet and Onto the Screen series will host a showing of the documentary “Overruled! The Case That Brought Down Sodomy Laws” on Wednesday, March 26, at 7 p.m. in Textor 103. The screening is free and open to the public. In 1998, on a September night in Houston, Texas, police stormed into John Lawrence’s home and arrested him and Tyron Garner for violating the state’s “homosexual conduct” law. “Overruled!” highlights their story and the courtroom drama behind Lawrence v. Texas—the case that led the U.S. Supreme Court in 2003 to strike down all remaining state sodomy laws, ending the criminalization of homosexuality in the United States. The Out of the Closet and Onto the Screen series is sponsored by the Ithaca College Center for LGBT Education, Outreach, and Services. For more information, visit www.ithaca.edu/lgbt.
