Africa Week will take place between March 31st and April 5th, this upcoming week! This year our theme is: "Celebrating Our Ancestors" in honor of our predecessors who have helped shape Africa into the beautiful and rich continent that it is today.

We will kick off the week with the inaugural speech by Mukoma Wa Ngugi, who is a novelist, poet, and literary scholar from Kenya, currently a professor at Cornell University. The event will take place in Clark Lounge at 7pm. SLI credit is available!

On Tuesday, we will be screening the film "Lumumba" which depicts the life of Patrice Lumumba and the struggle for independence of the Democratic Republic of Congo from Belgian colonial rule. The event will take place in Textor 101 at 7pm. SLI credit is available!

On Wednesday, we will have a dance workshop with a new dance group on campus: Island Fusion! They will be showing us a few dance moves from parts of the continent as well as the diaspora! You do not want to miss this! This event will take place in Job 161 at 7pm.

On Thursday, we will have a panel discussion entitled: "Brothers, stand up!", in collaboration with B4B, and hosted by John Rawlins from OSEMA. This event will open dialogue about how black men maintain their identities and culture in the classroom, workplace, and everything in between. Our panelists are students Cedrick Michael-Simmons and Dubian Ade, as well as Dr. Matt Mogekwu from the Journalism Department, and Dr. Sean Eversley Bradwell from the Center for the Study of Culture Race and Ethnicity. This event will take place in Emerson Suite C at 7pm. SLI credit is available!

Friday, we will have the Mr & Ms. ASA pageant! Come and see eight contestants show us why THEY should be Mr. or Ms. ASA! Who will take the crown? This event will take place in IC Square at 7pm.

And lastly, Saturday will be the Mauya Banquet, with guest speaker Dr. Jarra Jagne from Cornell University. Please get your tickets, which are free and available from 4 - 6 pm, from the SAC all of next week! This event will take place in Emerson Suites, and doors open at 7 pm.
