Come join us for an artist talk with Chris Vargas and Greg Youmans, who will be speaking about their web series, Falling in Love... With Chris and Greg featured in the exhibition STRANGE BEDFELLOWS, on view at the Handwerker Gallery through April 11.  This event will be held on Tuesday April 1st, 2014 at 6:30 PM in the Handwerker Gallery.

Falling in Love... With Chris and Greg is an odd-couple style sitcom in which Greg Youmans plays “the cisgendered gay-liberal half to Chris Vargas’s transgendered queer-radical half.” In short episodes and “specials,” Vargas and Youmans “play” themselves, addressing issues that came up in their relationship and in the queer political arena including gay marriage, pregnant men, and Propostion 8.

Youmans received his doctorate from the History of Consciousness program and the University of California, Santa Cruz and currently works as a writer, historian and Visiting Assistant Professor at Colgate University of Film and Media Studies. In his academic research, he focuses on topics of social and political themes in 1970s queer filmmaking.

Vargas received his MFA at the University of California, Berkeley in Art Practice. In his work, he focuses on imperfect role models and queer radicalism.  For one of his more current projects, he founded the Museum of Transgender Hirstory & Art, a fictitious institution in the California Bay Area comprised of various art projects promoting the freedom of gender non-conformity.
