Tariq and Matthew presented, along with Brooke Hansen and Jack Rossen of the Anthropology Department, at the Society for Applied Anthropology Annual Meeting on March 21 in Albuquerque, New Mexico. 

The presentations were part of a session on Participatory Research and Activism with Native American Communities and discussed their service work and participation in the Two Row Wampum Renewal Campaign. The year long campaign celebrated the 400th year anniversary of the Guswenta or Two Row Wampum Treaty -- the first treaty between the Haudenosaunee and Europeans made in 1613. The three goals of the treaty are peace, friendship and living together sustainably in our environment. A culminating event of the renewal included a 13 day paddle down the Hudson River from Albany to NYC followed by a March across Manhattan to the United Nations on Aug. 9th, 2013, the international Day of Indigenous Peoples.
