Ithaca College

The Ithaca College Department of Theater Arts will present an original devised performance work, “Transformations,” based on the poetry of Anne Sexton. Paula Murray Cole, an assistant professor of acting in the Department of Theater Arts, directs the production.

Tickets for “Transformations” are free but reservations are required. To reserve tickets for “Transformations” please e-mail ictams1@gmail.com and indicate a first and second choice of performance date and time. All tickets are distributed on a first come, first served basis and must be picked up at least 15 minutes before the scheduled start of the performance. Performance times are Saturday April 12th at 8:00 pm, Sunday April 13th at 2:00 pm and 8:00 pm, and Monday April 14th at 6:00 pm. All performances will be held in Studio 2 in Dillingham Center.

An ensemble piece based on Sexton’s unsettling poems, “Transformations” innovatively retells the fairy tales of The Brothers Grimm. Familiar tales such as Rumpelstiltskin, Red Riding Hood, and Cinderella will be explored in a new and unusual way. “Transformations” contains sexually explicit material and mature content, which some viewers may consider disturbing; viewer discretion is advised.

Cole, the facilitator and director, is very proud of the hard work and innovation the cast has put into the show. She states, “I have witnessed this wonderful group of young theatre artists create so many incredible moments of beauty, passion, sadness, outrage, laughter, fear and wonder…They have responded so courageously to my improvisation proposals, having only the vaguest of instructions to follow, along with my encouragement to, ‘do what you think I mean!’’’

The cast of “Transformations” includes, Laura Brennan ’15, Mal Cherifi ’15, Caelan Creaser ’17, Jordan Dunn-Piltz ’17, Kelly Fairbrother ’15, Brianna Ford ’16, Paul Alan Hogan ’17, James Kerr ’17, Natalee Merrill-Boyet ’16, Jordan Pesci-Smith ’17, Xavior Reyes ’14, Jacob Shipley ’17, Avery Sobczak ’14, Michael Sullivan ’16, and Melannie Vasquez ’15. The “Transformations” artistic staff includes director Paula Murray Cole, stage manager David Kanter ‘15, and assistant stage manager Hannah Drew ’16.

A nationally recognized professional theater-training program, the Department of Theater Arts attracts students from across the United States. Throughout the production season, undergraduate students present all aspects of theater in a professional model.
