Hunger Homeless Sleepout Friday April 11 in the Academic QuadContributed by David Holmes on 04/08/14 The Ithaca College Catholic Community is hosting a hunger homeless sleepout on the academic quad on Friday April 11 to Saturday April 12. We will be gathering for a night of learning about homelessness in and around Ithaca, New York. We'll be raising money for local non-profits in the area that deal directly with the homeless population, we'll be learning about the struggles that come with having a minimum wage job in the United States and standing in prayer and solidarity with the homeless for one night. It will be a wonderful and educational night that you won't want to miss. We'll be spending the night in the academic quad so make sure you bring your sleeping bag and possibly a pillow. Also, we would like to encourage everyone not to eat dinner that night so that everyone gets the feeling of what it is like to go to bed hungry. We will also be fundraising for organizations in the area that fight homelessness and poverty. Unfortunately, we can only accept cash and checks. Make all checks payable to the IC Newman Foundation. All money raised will be directed to organizations through out Thompkins County that work directly with homeless and poverty stricken individuals. Ask your friends and family to sponsor you and bring any donations with you to the night of the event. The event starts at 7pm on Friday April 11. We'll be in the Academic Quad in between Campus Center and the Library at Ithaca College. We are hoping that everyone will sign up so we can plan for the event. In order to sign up you can do so at this google doc. https://docs.google.com/forms/d/1D-8CvMlJ2s0_I6D0hp-3a9We7MLncHUH_8KL2g5YXhk/viewform If you have any questions or concerns or have special concerns or require acomodations please contact Dave Holmes at dholmes@ithaca.edu |
