Steven Mauk (music) was recently featured at the Biennial Conference of the North American Saxophone Alliance. Mauk joined legendary saxophone professors Eugene Rousseau and Frederick Hemke in one of the highlighted events of the conference, a panel discussion on The History of American Classical Saxophone Pedagogy. In addition, Mauk presented a lecture/recital on the Concertpiece for Two Alto Saxophones by Paul Hindemith. He was assisted during the performance portion of his presentation by Dr. Jamal Rossi (BM ’80). The conference was held from March 20-23 at the University of Illinois in Urbana, Illinois and over 1,500 participants were in attendance. Also in attendance were 13 of Mauk’s former Ithaca College saxophone students, almost all of whom gave presentations. These included Jamal Rossi (Dean, Eastman School of Music), Connie Frigo (Prof., U. of Georgia), Allison Adams (Prof., U. of Tennessee), Tim Rosenberg (Prof., Full Sail University), Ian Jeffress (Prof., Western Carolina University), Anthony Balester (US Air Force Band), Shawn Allison (DMA graduate, U. of Chicago), Chris Anderson (DMA graduate, U. of Illinois), Hantao Li (DMA student, U. of Iowa), Eric Troiano (DMA student, Michigan State University), Gabe Fadale (DMA student, U. of South Carolina), Sara Emery (MM student, U. of Georgia), and Jennifer Klauda Anderson (public school teacher in Illinois). |
