Patricia Zimmermann, professor of screen studies and codirector of the Finger Lakes Environmental Film Festival, has published an essay entitled “The Home Movie Archive Live,” in Amateur Filmmaking: The Home Movie, The Archive, The Web, ed. By Laura Rascaroli and Gwenda Young with Barry Monahan (New York and London: Bloomsbury, 2014).

The essay theorizes how multimedia performances combining amateur archival films and live music create additive structures to reconfigure images as a mobile, embodied, collaborative historiography.  The essay also probes how relational aesthetics, plural temporalities, and provisional contiguities remake screen and concert space as transversal encounters.

Many of the projects/performances analyzed in this essay were originally commissioned by, produced for, and performed at the Finger Lakes Environmental Film Festival at Ithaca College in collaboration with archives such as Northeast Historic Film and the Smithsonian Institution.
