MAY SESSION : Introduction to Drawing ART 13000

Open to all levels of experience - we'll cover the basics and explore a variety of approaches to drawing. If you've ever wanted to draw, learned to draw as a child and want to get back into it, or need 3 credits and would like to try something new, this two-week workshop is for you!

MAY 13-23, 2014: Class meets Monday through Friday 9:00 - 3:00 with an hour break for lunch. (Class does not meet Mon. 5/12).

This course will explore the mechanics of drawing, and examine its origins, contexts and expressive potential in an hands-on studio environment. Students will be introduced to perceptual drawing, composition and the creative process. Approaches to drawing still-life, architecture, landscape and the human figure we be explored. A supply kit provided by a local retailer (costing roughly $25 - $50) will allow students to explore several drawing media, and produce a portfolio of drawings completed both in class with instruction and independently outside of class. Students will study the vocabulary and concepts of visual and artistic communication, and use what they have learned to reflect upon and assess the characteristics and merits of their work and the work of others in critique. 3 credits.
