Inspections of all of the elevators and dumbwaiters on campus will be occurring over the next 3 weeks.

The campus elevators are inspected twice a fiscal year.  The first of these inspections will be starting this Wednesday, May 28, 2014 and carrying through over the next 3 weeks.  During this time, our elevator service contractor Schindler and CNY Elevator inspectors will performing full-load tests of the following elevators:

East Tower; West Tower; Gannett Center; Hammond Health; Muller Faculty Center; Terrace 3; Towers Dining Hall; West Tower

The four elevators in the Towers are due for five-year full-load safety tests this year.  This is a more comprehensive safety tst that must be performed every five years where the elevators are loaded with test weights equal to 125% of elevator capacity.  The safety test requires the elevator be out of service for 4-6 hours.  These tests will be done one elevator at a time, so there will always be an elevator working in these areas during the testing.  In the areas where we only have a single elevator - Gannett Center, Hammond Health, Muller Faculty Center, Terrace 3, and Towers Dining Hall, the elevator will be out of service during the testing.

For the remainder of campus, as they are testing elevators, hydraulic testing and dumbwaiter testing, the elevators will be out of service from 30 minutes to and hour, until the testing is complete.

As the inpsectors and elevator company will be working as quickly as possible to complete their testing in a manner that is as minimally invasive as possible, I am unable to provide a more detailed time line.  In the event that any issues arise or anyone has any questions, comments or concerns, please contact me.
