Ithaca College Director of Athletics & Recreational Sports Susan Bassett announced the appointment of Vic Brown as Head Coach for Strength and Conditioning in a newly-created role within the department.

"Victor Brown emerged as the ideal candidate following a rigorous national search. His demonstrated professional successes, program design and implementation, organizational skills and supervision of staff and student interns position him to continue the growth and development of our intercollegiate athletics program," Bassett said.

Brown is an industry leader, a multi-time All-American as a competitor by USA Triathlon and has helped multiple Boston University teams and students achieve success in competitive venues as well as within the strength and conditioning profession. He will begin his tenure at Ithaca College in August 2014.

The Ithaca College head coach for strength and conditioning will provide overall supervision of the strength and conditioning program for intercollegiate athletics, program design and development in collaboration with head coaches, supervision of exercise science graduate and undergraduate students as assigned by exercise science faculty, supervision of athletic training students as assigned by athletic training faculty, and supervision and scheduling of the three weight room facilities.

Brown joins Ithaca College after serving for the last 10 years at Boston University. As associate strength & conditioning coach he was responsible for the organization, design and implementation of strength and conditioning programs. He designs and implements in-season and off-season sport specific movement preparation, movement skills, plyometric, speed, agility, conditioning, Olympic/weight lifting, and injury prevention programs, and he assesses the players improvements for agility, speed, acceleration, maximum strength, power, and fitness levels.

Brown is responsible for the strength and conditioning of the nationally-ranked women's soccer program, men's soccer, women's basketball, and men's and women's swimming and diving. He has also worked with the Terriers' softball, wrestling and cross country programs. Brown has been the head coach of the triathlon team at Boston University since 2008 and has led the team to two conference championships, and has coached five individual student-athletes to conference championships. He is a former college baseball player as an undergraduate at Springfield College and worked in a strength and conditioning capacity within the Oakland Athletics organization as well as an athletic trainer in the Arena Football League.

Brown is looking forward to contributing to the continued excellence of the intercollegiate athletics programs at Ithaca College.

Brown has NSCA certifications as a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist as well as a Certified Personal Trainer. He is also an athletic trainer certified by the NATA. He has been published several times, including in Training and Conditioning, Triathlete Magazine, Journal of Applied Physiology, Medicine & Science in Sports & Exercise, and Journal of Strength & Conditioning Research.

A native of Augusta, N.J., Brown earned his undergraduate degree in athletic training with a minor is psychology from Springfield College in 2000, and later earned his master's in exercise science with a concentration in strength and conditioning from Appalachian State in 2004.
