Singers from NYC joining Ithaca College's Choral Music Experience are very much in need of local housing from Sunday June 29th- Thursday July 3rd! Each summer, the Ithaca College School of Music hosts Choral Music Experience (CME), a week-long training opportunity for school music teachers and Music Education graduate students learning choral conducting skills from Dr. Janet Galván, Ithaca College professor, assisting faculty and a guest composer. This year’s guest composer is Andrea Ramsey, a rising star in the choral composition world. Members of the Ithaca Children's Choir (ICC) serve as singers-in-residence for the week, and each year they host a visiting youth choir that shares in the music-making. This year, they welcome the Young People’s Chorus of New York City, an internationally renowned youth chorus as well as Lee’s Summit Children’s Chorus from Missouri led by former ICC conductor, Verna Brummett. These visiting young artists need places to stay during the week! Please consider hosting 2 or more young singers in your home during the week of June 29 – July 3! (Youth must be housed in groups of 2 or more.) Families who have hosted in the past have had wonderful experiences, and have provided a valuable opportunity for these “city kids” to enjoy our beautiful Ithaca environment. The New York singers look forward to this event every year, and the host family experience can be life-changing for these young singers. Hosting means: Picking up your young people from Ithaca College School (Whalen Center) on Sunday, June 29 (late afternooon/early evening)
Host families are warmly invited to a picnic on Wednesday July 2, 5:300-7:15 pm at (lower) Buttermilk Falls State Park. The CME week culminates with a free (and FABULOUS) informal concert at 2:30 pm on Thursday afternoon (July 3) in Ford Hall (Whalen Center for music) at Ithaca College. Host families are enthusiastically invited and encouraged to attend. To volunteer to host (two or more youth) or if you have any questions contact: Rebecca Saltzman at rsaltzm1@ithaca.edu or 609-647-8325 or Katie O’Brien kobrien2@ithaca.edu or 607-351-0418
Thank you so much for considering to host our visiting young singers!! |
