Asma Barlas, CSCRE, participated in The New York-St. Petersburg Institute of Linguistics, Cognition, and Culture, in RussiaContributed by Claire Swensen on 08/07/14 Asma Barlas, professor and director of the Center for the Study of Culture, Race, and Ethnicity (CSCRE) taught a three-week course and gave a school-wide lecture, 'Why is it so hard to speak about Islam?' at the NYI-St. Petersburg institute of Linguistics, Cognition, and Culture, in Russia in July. NYI is a program of St. Petersburg State University and the State University of New York at Stony Brook and it draws both graduate and undergraduate students from the Russian Federation, Europe, and the Americas. This is the second year Barlas participated in the Institute.
