After ten years serving as the director of the Park Scholar Program, Matt Fee has accepted an offer from Syracuse University to serve as the director of Summer College at SU. The Roy H. Park School of Communications invites the campus community to celebrate Matt's accomplishments and contributions at a reception on Thursday, Aug. 28 from 5:00- 6:30 p.m. in Park 223. Since joining Ithaca College in 2004, Fee has not only overseen a 100% increase in applications for the Park Scholar Award, but also developed and directed a comprehensive plan of academic, service, social, and professional programming. During this time, Fee introduced a variety of academic programming, such as a first-year special topics course, biannual Saturday Seminars, and various colloquia. His time with the program has been characterized by a number of innovations: in 2006, he created the program’s first alumni advisory board; in 2008 he expanded the program’s eligibility through introducing Park Scholar Rising Junior Awards; and in 2010 he worked with the Dean’s Office in establishing the S’Park Media Mentor Awards. Additionally, Fee transformed the program’s service requirements into a dynamic series of cross-class service partnerships with the local Ithaca community; organized and led international service trips to Ethiopia and Guatemala; and ultimately established an annual, weeklong service trip to New Orleans. An assistant professor of screen studies, during his time at Ithaca College Fee has also taught courses in the Department of Media Arts, Sciences and Studies; presented his research at both national and international conferences; and published essays on Irish cinema and film genres. His last day at Ithaca College will be Friday, August 29.
