Jean Hardwick (Professor, Biology) Hosted the Triennial FUN Workshop at Ithaca CollegeContributed by Dylan Schoch on 08/25/14 Faculty for Undergraduate Neuroscience (FUN) Workshop – Undergraduate Neuroscience Education: Innovations in Creating and Sustaining Programs and Courses Jean Hardwick (Professor, Biology) hosted the triennial FUN workshop at Ithaca College this summer, July 30 – Aug 3. FUN is an international organization focused on neuroscience education and research at the undergraduate level. The 2014 workshop brought over 120 faculty from across the US and Europe to Ithaca to learn new laboratory exercises, discuss curricular and teaching innovations, and explore different topics related to professional development and program design. The workshop began with a smaller satellite Pre-Workshop, co-hosted by the Neurobiology and Behavior Department at Cornell University, which focused on intensive laboratory training sessions. This was followed by the main workshop that included presentations from representatives from the NIH and NSF, as well as plenary sessions on retaining minority faculty, study abroad options for undergraduates in Neuroscience, and best practices in Neuroscience programs. Ian Woods, Assistant Professor of Biology presented sessions during the workshop on low cost systems for motion analysis in the laboratory. |
