As many as 90% of U.S. adults have low back pain at some time in their life and will visit a doctor for this pain. Men and women are equally affected. All of us can benefit from the exercises and therapeutic yoga poses, whether we have chronic back pain (more than 3 months of continuous daily pain) or have recently had an injury to the back. Even those without pain can strengthen their back and improve their posture, keeping the back healthy for years and years. Why wait until you need to see the doctor for pain or depend on daily pain medication to function in your day? Healthy management of back pain will be discussed and demonstrated by James Eavenson. James is an Iyengar yoga teacher who has been teaching for fifteen years. He has travelled to India extensively to study with the senior teachers under B.K.S. Iyengar in addition to participating in their medical classes. He has taught in Ithaca, New York City, and India and has private clients who see him for their back pain. He himself manages his pain through Iyengar yoga and currently teaches for faculty, staff and students at Ithaca College's Fitness Center.
