IC Politics Professor Tom Shevory will speak on Central Asian environmental policy at next Environmental SeminarContributed by Carol Hansen on 09/04/14 Tom Shevory of IC’s Politics department will be the featured speaker at next Monday’s ENVS Seminar (Sept. 8). His talk, entitled “Moldovans, Mongols and Modesty: Perspective vs. policy,” will draw on his experiences with global policy issues in Asia. Dr. Shevory has published widely on issues related to law, public policy, and popular culture, with a particular focus on health and the environment. Fulbright scholarships took him overseas to teach at universities in Moldova and the National University of Mongolia in Ulaanbaatar, where he explored Central Asian politics, culture and national policy. He is also Co-Director of the Finger Lakes Environmental Film Festival, which works to bring environment and sustainability into a larger global conversation.
This semester’s seminar series addresses global environmental issues and how we can effect broader environmental change to protect resources. The seminar meets every Monday from 4 to 5 pm in CNS 112. Before the seminar, at 3:45, attendees are welcome to meet/greet the day’s speaker while sampling “sustainable snacks” provided by Sodexo. All members of the IC community are welcome to attend. Individuals with disabilities requiring accommodations should contact Carol Hansen at chansen@ithaca.edu or (607) 274-1822. We ask that requests for accommodations be made as soon as possible. |
