This is just a reminder that mandatory fire and emergency evacuation drills will continue in the coming week for academic and residential buildings.

These drills are required by the New York State Fire Code for all campus owned and occupied buildings. The fire code is very specific as to when drills are held, and how many drills are required each year. A simple explanation of the code requirement is that all residential life buildings must have four drills per year while all academic or business occupancies must have three.

You are required to exit a building in a safe and expedited manner any time the fire alarm system is activated, and then gather at your building’s established meeting spot. EH&S will attempt to avoid conducting drills during study weeks, exam weeks etc., and every effort will be made to conduct the drills during reasonable weather. Most drills last five minutes or less so please assist us by participating when the alarm sounds. Thank you
