Award-winning playwright Tony Kushner (“Angels in America”) has adapted Brecht’s classic commentary on good and evil. In the play, the gods search for one good person in Setzuan, a town full of corrupt, immoral citizens. They find the kind and generous Shen Te, who then struggles to stay true to herself. Director Norm Johnson says “Setzuan is everywhere, the place where everyone is a bit unhappy and in a state of perpetual complaining, hoping for something better in life.” Joel Gelpe, who has composed and arranged original music for this production, says, “There’s this dynamic at work; you see it in life, too. Even if you summon the courage to go against what you normally do, you have to take into account other people’s expectations.” “The Good Person of Setzuan” student-led production team includes scenic designer Lena Forman ’15, costume designer Ashlynne Abraham ’15, lighting designer Erik Herskowitz ’16, and sound designer Scott Halstead ’16. The technical director is Colin Stewart and the stage manager is Kelly Frisch ’15.
