Join us for our second event in International Education Week!

We will be hosting a discussion, in collaboration with African Students Association. Professor Sherry Deckman will present about how race and culture are treated in modern day.

This workshop will define the concept of cultural appropriation. We will consider arguments about why cultural appropriation (as we have defined it) is considered problematic in many communities, taking into account: economic arguments, intellectual property arguments, moral and cultural arguments. Further, we will discuss issues of power at play in examples of cultural appropriation. Our exploration will be supported through one case study example of cultural appropriation in the current media and consideration of ways that cultural exchange can be done in meaningful, non-harmful ways.

This will be in Klingenstein Lounge at 7PM on Tuesday!
SLI credit is available for this guest-speaker event.

Individuals with disabilities requiring accommodations should contact International Club at icic@ithaca.edu . We ask that requests for accommodations be made as soon as possible.
