As part of our planning around the 25th anniversary of Ed Tech Day on March 19th, ITS and the Center for Faculty Excellence would like to invite interested faculty members to help us explore ways to engage the campus in a dialog about the evolution of technology, both where we have come from, and more importantly, where we are heading over the coming decades and how that will impact how we live, work and learn.

Back in 1991 the college held its first Educational Technology Day and started a tradition that is now midway through its third decade.  Back then the Macintosh Classic, IBM PS/2, DEC workstations, and a new thing called “Multimedia” were all the rage.  The commercial Internet didn’t exist and Google (actually spelled googol) was just a large number – it was a very different time.  Instead of Hypercard, attendees now learn about mobile computing, 3D printing, wearable technologies, state-of-the-art classroom interaction technologies and the like.  What will technology be like in the next 25 years?

ITS in partnership with the Center for Faculty Excellence is exploring ways to mark the 25th anniversary of the event, using the theme of “looking back / looking forward”.  We want to acknowledge how far we have come with technology over the past two and a half decades, and then project out over the next 10, 20, 25 years for how technology changes will impact how we live, work and learn.

We would like to invite you to participate in a small focus group on Thursday, October 23rd from 4 PM to 5 PM or Monday October 27th 4 PM to 5 PM to help us think through ideas and ways we might engage with the campus community to explore these topics, culminating in activities surrounding the 25th Ed Tech Day on March 19, 2015.

The focus group will be held in the ITS meeting room on the 14th floor of the East Tower (the former Tower Club location). Refreshments will be served.

If you are interested in joining us please RSVP to Wade Pickren (wpickren@ithaca.edu) or Dave Weil (dweil@ithaca.edu) indicating which session you’d like to attend.

We look forward to hearing from you.
