The Ithaca College chapter of Phi Kappa Phi will hold its annual Fall Awards Ceremony on Friday, November 14th, 4:00 PM in Klingenstein Lounge, Campus Center.

At that time, four exceptional undergraduates (see bios below) who are members of Phi Kappa Phi will be recognized as recipients of the prestigious Presidential Scholar Awards named after the chapter’s first four presidents:  

Shirley Hockett Presidential Scholar - Rachel Snyder

John Bernard Presidential Scholar - Curt McConnell

John Harcourt Presidential Scholar - Candace Burton

Raquib Zaman Presidential Scholar – Carin Pracht

In addition, the Ithaca College Phi Kappa Phi Chapter is pleased to announce that Dianne Zamoiski, Assistant to the Director of Admissions in the School of Music, was invited to membership in Phi Kappa Phi. Dianne will be inducted and recognized at the Spring Induction ceremony taking place on March 26, 2015.

Presidential Scholar Bios

The Shirley Hockett Scholar: RACHEL SNYDER, Chemistry
Rachel Snyder is a senior studying Chemistry in the School of Humanities and Sciences at Ithaca College with minors in Physics and Honors. Rachel graduated from North East High School in 2011 and is a native of North East, Pennsylvania. At Ithaca College, Rachel serves as President of the Ithaca College Chemistry Club, Co-President of Volunteers for Special Olympics, and founder and President of the Ithaca College Orthodox Christian Fellowship student organization. She has worked on several major research projects and will be presenting her work at the national American Chemical Society meeting this spring in Denver, Colorado.

The John Harcourt Scholar: CANDACE BURTON, Sport Management
Candace Burton is a senior studying Sport Management in the School of Health Sciences and Human Performance at Ithaca College with a minor in Health. Candace graduated from Townsend Harris High School in 2011 and is a native of Queens, New York. At Ithaca College, Candace is Co-President of the student organization IC Created Equal. She is an active participant of the Martin Luther King Scholar program and presented a professional paper at the James J. Whalen Conference of Undergraduate Research at Ithaca College following research completed in Ecuador and Ghana. Candace also participates in volunteer programs in Ithaca including the Beverly Martin Elementary School After School Program, Loaves and Fishes and the Ithaca Alternative Library.

The John Bernard Scholar: CURT MCCONNELL, Environmental Science
Curt McConnell is a senior studying Environmental Science in the School of Humanities and Sciences at Ithaca College with a minor in French. Curt graduated from Parkland High School in 2011 and is a native of Allentown, Pennsylvania. At Ithaca College, Curt is performing toxicology research and serves as a Steward and Tour Guide for the Ithaca College Natural Lands. Curt also assists other students as a Lab Teaching Assistant for an Environmental Toxicology Lab in the Department of Environmental Studies and Sciences. Additionally, he has been the treasurer of the Ithaca College Environmental Society and both a Teaching and Lab Assistant for courses in Chemistry and Earth Science.

The Raquib Zaman Scholar: CARIN PRACHT, Health Care Management
Carin Pracht is a senior studying Health Care Management in the School of Health Sciences and Human Performance at Ithaca College with a minor in Business Administration. Carin graduated from Gowanda High School in 2011 and is a native of Gowanda, New York. At Ithaca College, Carin is the President of the Ithaca College Association of Healthcare Professionals and a member of the National Residence Hall Honorary. She has also been the secretary of the Ithaca College Chapter of the Make-A-Wish Foundation and a member of Service Saturdays, where she has volunteered with Relay for Life, Habitat for Humanity, Walk to Cure Alzheimer’s, Titus Towers, and Beechtree Care Center.
