The School of Music invites the campus and local communities to the opening reception of the new Karel Husa exhibit in the Whalen Center for Music on Thursday, Nov. 6 at 6:30 p.m., which will include a lecture led by junior Voice Performance and Music Education major Patrick Starke, followed by refreshments and an open gallery.

The exhibit is centered on the piece “Apotheosis of The Earth” created in 1971 by the Pulitzer Prize-winning composer Karel Husa. It was originally commissioned by the University of Michigan to commemorate the retirement of William D. Revelli, the director of bands there for 36 years.

Starke ’16 has been working on the archive since the beginning of last semester, finding information and correspondence pertaining to this composition. The gallery installation includes letters, posters, recordings, and original sketches from the hand of Karel Husa, among other points of interest.

Individuals with disabilities requiring accommodations should contact Patrick Starke at pstarke1@ithaca.edu. We ask that all requests be made as soon as possible.
