Do you have an interest in theatre even though you’re not a theatre major? Do you enjoy attending performances put on by your classmates and friends? IC Players may provide an opportunity that interests you! IC Players is a completely student-run theatre organization on campus designed specifically to give members of the Ithaca College community theatrical opportunities and a space to grow both professionally and creatively. Olivia Berrigan (’16) joined IC Players during her first year at IC after hearing about it from an upperclassman in the theatre department. Throughout her first year, she successfully auditioned for and performed in shows, and she is now one of the two Co-Artistic Directors. She said, “I love the idea of a completely student-run theatre organization. It is extremely satisfying to put on the shows knowing that all of this hard work was done by students.”
Last weekend, IC Players performed Stop Kiss, directed by Liana Pavane (’17), on Friday and Saturday night in Job Hall. The performance followed the story of Callie and Sara, two women who are brutally assaulted after they share their first kiss. While dealing with the aftermath of the attack, the characters explore their relationships and the meaning of human emotion and compassion. IC Players chose this production because they believed that Ithaca College and the Ithaca community foster the perfect environment for a show with a story of its kind. They were right! Both performances of the show were sold out, and both audiences showed an overwhelmingly positive response. IC Players still has two shows coming up this semester. First, Laundry and Bourbon/Lone Star, to be directed by Danica Kelley (’16), will be performed on November 14th and 15th at 7:00 p.m. in Job 161. Second, Oleanna, to be directed by Christian Savini (’17), will be performed on December 5th and 6th at 8:00 p.m. in Klingenstein Lounge. In addition to working on these performances, IC Players will be accepting director submissions for possible performances in future semesters as well as applications from those who are interested in the director position of their annual production of Vagina Monologues in the spring. Berrigan says that her favorite part about being involved in IC Players is that it is open to all majors on campus so anyone that has an interest in theatre can get involved. She said, “it is an outlet for anyone who has a passion for theatre to create it on campus with other students that share the same interests.” If you are interested in finding out more about how to get involved with IC Players, visit their Facebook page. All information about director submissions for upcoming seasons, interviews for executive board positions, and audition and show times will be posted here.
