As part of the interview process for the position of Director of the Center for the Study of Culture, Race and Ethnicity – You are invited to a presentation by Dr. Belisa Gonzalez, Associate Professor in the Department of Sociology. The presentation will be held on Wednesday, November 12, 2014 from 3:00 pm – 4:30 pm in Clark Lounge.

From Anthropology to Ethnic Studies: The Curiosity and Questions of Studying Race and Ethnicity from a Sociological Perspective

In this presentation she will explore the evolution of her scholarly inquiry over the past 17 years as she transitioned from a PhD candidate in Anthropology, to a PhD in Sociology and currently an applicant for the Director of an Ethnic Studies program, The Center for the Study of Culture, Race and Ethnicity. Through a discussion of her scholarship and experience as a Chicana, she will present the driving questions and motivations for exploring the constructions and consequences of race and ethnicity in the U.S. In addition to presenting the guiding interests that run throughout her life and work, she will discuss how they will inform her work in the CSCRE.
