Laura Kuo, IC Library, and Jana Waller, HSHP Faculty, Present at National ConferenceContributed by Lisabeth Chabot on 11/21/14 Jana Waller, Clinical Instructor/Fieldwork Coordinator/Assistant Chair in the Department of Speech-Language Pathology and Audiology, and Laura Kuo, Health Sciences Librarian, presented at the 2014 American Speech-Language-Hearing Association Convention, being held November 20-22, 2014, in Orlando, FL. Waller and Kuo presented a Technical Research Session, "Teaching Evidence‐Based Practice & Information Literacy in Speech‐Language Pathology Programs: A Needs Assessment." They discussed their assessment of an interdisciplinary approach to teaching evidence-based practice (EBP) and information literacy (IL) skills through an active learning library session in an undergraduate Clinical Methods course. Students’ perceptions of this workshop were measured using the One-Minute Paper assessment technique over a two-year period. The results demonstrated that active learning is an effective way to teach the IL skills necessary for EBP, students value the library workshop and want it earlier in the curriculum, and librarian-faculty collaboration is an essential component of teaching EBP and IL. The presentation aligned nicely with this year's conference theme: "Science. Learning. Practice. Generations of Discovery."
