Sherry Deckman’s (Education) work, “Beyond the Numbers: Institutional Influences on Experiences With Diversity on Elite College Campuses,” appears in the current (December 2014) issue of Sociological Forum. The paper, co-authored with Natasha Warikoo (Harvard University), draws on 77 in-depth interviews with students from two elite universities. The paper argues that though the schools have demographically similar student bodies, different institutional approaches can have significant impact on students’ campus diversity experiences and reflects Sherry’s larger research agenda focused on diversity in education.
