Are you a community service leader? Is your community service making a difference in your community? Then consider applying for The Independent Sector Student Community Service Awards!

 

Ten New York State students who are committed to community service and can demonstrate a positive impact with a community organization will be selected to receive a $500 scholarship.

To be eligible for this prestigious award, you must be -

  • In good academic standing;
  • A New York State resident who receives or has received a Tuition Assistance Program (TAP) award;
  • Full-time junior or senior undergraduates or graduate students (who received TAP as an undergraduate);
  • Able to attend the Monday, March 2, 2015 reception in Albany.

To apply:  E-mail a 2 – 3 page essay that addresses the following four criteria areas to Laurie Worrall at lworrall@ithaca.edu by December 30. Nominees will be scored by a selection committee on the following criteria: 

  • Depth and quality of service (How many years have you volunteered? What role have you played as a volunteer? To what extent do you demonstrate leadership? Does your commitment show a sustained involvement in community service activities?)
  • Demonstrated evidence of impact of the service on the community (What is the impact of your work with the not-for-profit organization in the community? How have you connected your community service to any coursework or academic pursuits?)
  • Other awards or scholarships received (Have you received other awards or scholarships that showcase their work in community service or a related field?)
  • Overall suitability for award (How are you or will you be a good ambassador for other college student’s looking to get involved in community service? Do you demonstrate academic excellence while committing your time, energy, and resources to making a difference by volunteering in the community?)
