The Language and Cultural Exchange Cooperative (LCEC) is a new space on campus that can be used to enhance cooperative and integrative global learning. This space was conceived after Modern Languages and Literatures faculty members conducted significant research on language center trends and the use of technology in higher education. The LCEC was designed to serve not only its home department, but also collaborations with the wider Ithaca College community.

The LCEC has been set up in a way that allows for group videoconferencing, collaborative projects in digital technology between faculty or students, and exchanges with scholars who are abroad. Faculty can bring classes to the LCEC for group activities, or use the center for their own collaborative work. It can be a place for occasional use—for a presentation by an expert abroad, for example—or it can be a regular component in courses that have a global exchange emphasis. In addition to the group videoconferencing capabilities, it holds two computer clusters to allow small groups of faculty or students to work together on digital projects.  In short, the LCEC is available for faculty to use as a starting point for innovative projects in teaching and research, and to explore alternative learning models.

If you are interested in scheduling the LCEC or if you're interested in using the space to collaborate on projects, email or call Associate Professor of Spanish, Maria DiFrancesco (mdifrancesco@ithaca.edu), 274-3547.
