Create Shipping Labels for First Class and Priority Packages from your Desktop Effective 1/26/15Contributed by Karen Serbonich on 01/09/15 First Class Parcels and Priority mail will be impacted by United States Postal Service (USPS) changes that take effect on 1/25/15. This will be reflected in a variety of mail items that are shipped; first class parcels of music recordings or media recordings, first class parcels of acceptance items, priority mailings of documents that weigh over 13 ounces (Admission materials, diplomas), sports items, and other parcels with tracking. The USPS change to first class and priority packages will not apply to department items shipped FedEx or UPS. For Ithaca College departments to receive the current commercial based pricing discount that we have received for 4 years, all first class parcels and priority mail must have an IMpb compliant label. Mail Services ships approximately 5,500 items annually that fall in the above mentioned categories for the campus and non-compliance with IMpb labels will increase our postage costs on the above mail pieces by an average of 9.86 %. The attached document illustrates and explains the USPS changes and additional forthcoming rate increases. In order to maintain existing First Class and Priority Package rates and stay within institutional budgets, we will be moving to a free USPS shipping software download called Click-n-Ship for Business which will allow offices to create compliant labels from their desktops. The address information that is imported to create the current labels used on outgoing packages can be imported into Click-n-ship for Business. Free tracking on First Class and Priority mail is provided as well as $50 insurance on Priority pieces. Click-n-Ship for Business creates a more user friendly way to create the customs forms required on International packages than the current Customs Form USPS link. I have already reached out to some of you to set up a date in the New Year for training. Please contact me with questions and to set up a time to go over the program, installation and to answer questions. Note that this change also applies to faculty who ship CD’s or other media. Please reference the attached installation document for further information. |
