Can't Compost Cutlery!

Contributed by Mark Darling on 01/16/15

DO NOT PUT KNIVES, FORKS AND SPOONS IN THE COMPOST COLLECTION BINS, PUT THEM IN THE TRASH.

Due to processing difficulties Cayuga Compost is no longer accepting for processing any material that contains cutlery.

Beginning now, we can no longer put knives, forks and spoons into the compost they must go in the trash. Serious problems have been developing over the past year with the complete break down of compostable plastic cutlery in Cayuga Compost's system that has forced them to no longer accept knives, forks and spoons.

We will continue to work with Cayuga Compost to identify a supplier of cutlery that will conform with their guidelines.

If you would like more information on this cutlery ban please feel free to contact Mark Darling mdarling@ithaca.edu
