Faculty/Staff Talking Circle on Race and Racism: Applications Due Friday!Contributed by Michelle Rios-Dominguez on 02/03/15 Have you ever had a question about race but were uncomfortable or unsure how to ask? What does racism mean to you? How do you experience racism? How do you think racism has affected your and others’ lives? How do you cope with the effects? Who is responsible for eliminating racism? How might that happen? Ithaca’s Multicultural Resource Center (MRC) created a program called Talking Circles on Race and Racism to bring racially and ethnically diverse people together for an honest and open dialogue on race. Now you can join the conversation, in a comfortable and collegial setting. What? Ithaca College faculty and staff are invited to come together in a safe environment to share feelings, thoughts, and experiences in a sustained, confidential, frank dialogue around issues of race and racism. The circle, sponsored by the Diversity Awareness Committee (DAC) and cosponsored by Human Resources and the Center for Faculty Excellence, will be facilitated by MRC professionals, It will be made up of 15-17 racially and ethnically diverse people who will meet once weekly for five consecutive sessions to self-reflect, share experiences, and learn from others’ perspectives and attitudes. Lunch will be served. When/Where? Tuesdays, Feb 17-March 24, 2015, noon-2:00 p.m. in the Peggy Ryan Williams Center, HR Training Room. (Weekly for five sessions; will not meet the week of spring break.) Who? A good mix of people from all races, ethnic backgrounds, cultures, and creeds will be selected from among the applicants. How?
