Dr. Ken Rundell, Exercise & Sport Science Guest SpeakerContributed by Deborah L. King on 02/19/15 Ken Rundell, PhD, an expert on respiratory function and one of the foremost authorities worldwide on exercise induced asthma and air quality, will be visiting Ithaca College Thursday February 26 and giving two talks that are free and open to the public: Vocal Cord Dysfunction: A very confusing diagnosis 12:10 to 1:00 pm in Hill 104. Exercise Induced Asthma: The good, the bad and the ugly 6:30 to 7:30 pm in Hill 104.
Dr. Rundell was senior physiologist at the USOC Lake Placid where he established the sport science laboratory. During his time at the USOC he worked with many athletes with exercise induced asthma. Dr. Rundell directed the Respiratory Research and Human Physiology Lab at Marywood University for 8 years and is currently a medical affairs consultant for Pharmaxis. Vocal Cord Dysfunction (VCD) can cause breathing difficulty and is not well understood in the athletic population. It is difficult to diagnosis and often mimics exercise induced asthma. Exercise induced asthma (EIA) can cause shortness of breath and decreased endurance in athletes. Improperly diagnosed and ineffective or unnecessary treatment of either VCD or EIA results in poor control of the symptoms and the inability of an athlete to perform at peak level. More information on these talks is available on the IC Events Calendar: Vocal Cord Dysfunction Thursday 2/26/2015 at 12:10 pm Hill 104 and Exercise Induced Asthma Thursday 2/26/2015 6:30 pm in Hill 104.
