Featuring contemporary ballet and music from Zoe Keating and Caroline Shaw, O’Brien’s piece “Hop On, No Stops” is inspired by the tumultuous journey of life and explores how we hold on to our familial bonds as we encounter new experiences and grow. “Under the Covers,” choreographed by Lightner, runs the gamut of dance styles from hip-hop to contemporary and street jazz to partnering. The dance follows one woman from childhood to the end of her life, highlighting the importance of her relationships and love gained and lost. “One of the biggest things we deal with in our lives in relationships and love,” said Lightner. “As relationships come and go, we see ourselves as both the victim as well as the villain.” “Tiny Rebellions,” the third piece in the concert choreographed by Gilmour, focuses on the rebellions we engage with in our daily lives and features the poetry of Walt Whitman. Says Gilmour, “This piece explores the subtle rebellions of body over mind, myth over logic, nature over industry and the feminine over the masculine.” Christopher Seeds, the choreographer’s husband, composes and plays original music for the piece. The “Flight of the Heart” production team features the work of many students, including scenic designers Lena Forman ’15 and Tyler Hampton ’15; costume designers Rebecca Dwight ’16, Emma Duncan ’16, and Anna Blazer ‘16; lighting designer Steve TenEyck, Scott Halstead ’16, and E-hui Woo ’15; and sound designer Josh Samuels ’16.
