 Ithaca College performed outstandingly at the 33rd annual Novice National Championships held at Butler University in Indianapolis on March 13-15.  

Charlie Vaca (Accounting and Politics, 2017) had a 3-1 preliminary record in the preliminary debates and lost in the quarterfinals to a competitor from Truman State University. Charlie also advanced to the finals in Impromptu Sales (students are given a product or concept to sell and have a limited time to prepare a presentation). Jose Escano (Legal Studies, 2017) also had a 3-1 preliminary record and advanced to the semifinals. Jose also received an award for being one of the top speakers in the debate division. The debates were Lincoln Douglas Style where one competitor individually faces another. The topic for the debates was the development of lunar resources.
