Hailed “a force to be reckoned with,” the internationally acclaimed trombone quartet Maniacal 4 will perform a free concert in Ithaca College’s Ford Hall, located within the Whalen Center for Music, on Sunday, March 22, at 8:15 p.m.

Open to the public, the concert features a program of varied genres and a rhythm section comprised of Ithaca College School of Music students, including Emmett Scott ’15 on piano, Andrew Hedge ’16 on drums, Alex Toth ’16 on bass, and Jonah Prendergast ‘16 on guitar.

Well versed in classical, jazz, Latin, and rock, Maniacal 4 has performed on three continents, entertaining audiences with a wide range of styles and time periods, The group has become widely known on YouTube for their impressive arrangements and covers of classic rock tunes, including Kansas’ “Carry on Wayward Son” and Queen’s “Bohemian Rhapsody.”

Performing concerts almost exclusively from memory, the group projects a 'clear, unified, uplifting and committed musical vision on par with professional chamber ensembles. Replacing guitar solos with effects pedal-driven trombone distortion, and adding tight brass chords in lieu of vocal harmonies, these players recreate the classic rock standards with a unique and innovative energy.

Maniacal 4 will also conduct a master class from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. on Sunday in Presser Rehearsal Room, within the Whalen Center. Group members will discuss their background, musical ideas, and business perspectives. The master class is also free and open to the public.
