Sunday: Maniacal 4 trombone quartet to perform with School of Music students in free concertContributed by Jenny Stockdale on 03/19/15 Hailed “a force to be reckoned with,” the internationally acclaimed trombone quartet Maniacal 4 will perform a free concert in Ithaca College’s Ford Hall, located within the Whalen Center for Music, on Sunday, March 22, at 8:15 p.m. Open to the public, the concert features a program of varied genres and a rhythm section comprised of Ithaca College School of Music students, including Emmett Scott ’15 on piano, Andrew Hedge ’16 on drums, Alex Toth ’16 on bass, and Jonah Prendergast ‘16 on guitar. Performing concerts almost exclusively from memory, the group projects a 'clear, unified, uplifting and committed musical vision on par with professional chamber ensembles. Replacing guitar solos with effects pedal-driven trombone distortion, and adding tight brass chords in lieu of vocal harmonies, these players recreate the classic rock standards with a unique and innovative energy. Maniacal 4 will also conduct a master class from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. on Sunday in Presser Rehearsal Room, within the Whalen Center. Group members will discuss their background, musical ideas, and business perspectives. The master class is also free and open to the public. Individuals with disabilities requiring accommodations should contact Erik Kibelsbeck at ekibelsbeck@ithaca.edu or 607-274-3717. We ask that requests for accommodations be made as soon as possible.
