Fire and Emergency Evacuation Drills Happening around CampusContributed by Charlie Sherman on 04/01/15
Ithaca College Environmental Health and Safety personnel will once again be conducting fire and evacuation drills for all campus owned and occupied buildings.
Greetings: As required by the New York State Fire Code, Ithaca College Environmental Health and Safety personnel will once again be conducting fire and evacuation drills for all campus owned and occupied buildings. The fire code is very specific as to when drills are held, and how many drills are required each year. A simple explanation of the code requirement is that all residential life buildings must have four drills per year while all academic or business occupancies must have three. As is always the case, you are required to exit a building in a safe and expedited manner any time the fire alarm system is activated, and then gather at your building’s established meeting spot. EH&S will attempt to avoid conducting drills during study weeks, exam weeks etc., and every effort will be made to conduct the drills during reasonable weather, normally temperatures above 35 and dry conditions. If you have any questions the day of the drill do not hesitate to ask the EH&S staff conducting the drill. Your assistance in the drill is needed, so that by working together we can maintain fire code compliance and help demonstrate a safe environment for our staff, Faculty and Students.
Thank you
