Excitement is building about the Izzy Award ceremony, happening this Wednesday, April 15, 7:30 p.m. in Emerson Suites B&C, Campus Center (Phillips Hall). Author NAOMI KLEIN (pictured; photo by Kourosh Keshiri), joining us in Ithaca amidst her whirlwind book tour of Europe and North America, and investigative reporter DAVID SIROTA, who continues to poke the powerful with new exposés just about every other day, will accept the Izzy Award and each give a speech. People from many fields of study will find much of interest in these two writers' work, from politics to natural sciences, health policy, history, finance, business, law, and of course journalism and writing. We hope that faculty will attend and encourage their students to seize the opportunity of hearing two such luminaries together on one stage -- something unlikely to happen again. Librarian Cathy Michael has posted a helpful study guide to the works that earned Naomi Klein and David Sirota the seventh annual Izzy Award. We do expect a crowd and encourage you to arrive early and claim a seat. Doors will open at 6:30 p.m. Event listing here. Individuals with disabilities requiring accommodation, please contact Brandy Hawley, bhawley@ithaca.edu, 607-274-3829, as much in advance as possible. |
