Third Annual New Voices Festival Brings Emerging Writers to Campus April 22-24Contributed by Eleanor Henderson on 04/14/15 The New Voices Festival brings writers at the beginning stages of burgeoning literary careers to share prose, poetry, and plays with the students and faculty at Ithaca College, and the large and diverse literary community in the city of Ithaca. The three-day festival--April 22nd through 24th--features a packed schedule of readings, panels, and class visits by seven talented emerging writers: Will Boast, author of the short story collection Power Ballads and the memoir Epilogue; Bill Cheng, author of the novel Southern Cross the Dog; Hannah Gamble, author of the poetry collection Your Invitation to a Modest Breakfast; Edan Lepucki, author of the novel California; Mukoma Wa Ngugi, author of the novels Black Star Nairobi, Nairobi Heat, and the book of poems Hurling Words at Consciousness; Heidi Schreck, author of the plays Creature, There Are No More Big Secrets, The Consultant, and Grand Concourse, which will be produced as a staged reading by On the Verge on April 24th; and Jacob White, author of the short story collection Being Dead in South Carolina and assistant professor of Writing at Ithaca College. As the heart of its mission, New Voices aims to involve undergraduate students at every level of planning and implementation, enlisting students as hosts for the college. The festival is a collaborative effort of the Writing and English Departments at Ithaca College, with invaluable support from the schools of Humanities and Sciences and Theatre Arts. Venues include the Handwerker Gallery, Buffalo Street Books, Clark Lounge, and the Clark Theatre. All events are free and open to the public.
