Upgrading Internet Explorer (IE) on College Windows ComputersContributed by Karen Compton on 05/12/15 Until recently, many of our faculty/staff computers have come with IE9 installed in order to maintain compatibility with business systems such as Parnassus "core apps" and HomerAdmin. Now that our systems are compatible with IE11, ITS recommends that IE9 users upgrade to IE11, particularly if Internet Explorer is their preferred/primary Web browser. To check the IE version, launch IE and click the gear icon at the top right of the window (next to the star and house icons), then choose About Internet Explorer. If it is any version lower than IE11, use the link below to download and install IE11 from Microsoft's site. Note that Windows XP is not compatible with IE11.
Microsoft will stop supporting and providing security updates for all versions of Internet Explorer below IE11 as of January 12, 2016. In addition, for services such as the Office 365/Outlook Web App, Microsoft states "You should expect the quality of the user experience to diminish over time, and that many new Office 365 experiences might not work at all with older versions of IE".
